According to well-informed sources, Feyenoord is in the process of attracting Timon Wellenreuther, reports 1908.nl. The goalkeeper is still under contract with RSC Anderlecht until mid-2024 and has a value of 800,000 euros, according to Transfermarkt. In Rotterdam, the German should compete with Justin Bijlow.

The 26-year-old closing post is no stranger to the Netherlands. In 2017, he made a transfer-free transfer from Schalke 04 to Willem II. In total he played for more than a hundred games the Tricolores. Three years later, the Tilburgers sold him to Anderlecht, where he only made 27 appearances. Last season, Wellenreuther was loaned out to Willem II again, but he couldn’t save them from relegation to the Kitchen Champion Division.

If the transfer goes ahead, Feyenoord will bring in a serious competitor for Bijlow. It is true that the the Dutch international is Arne Slot’s first choice under the bar, but Bijlow has proved to be very susceptible to injury in recent seasons. Last season alone, the goalie missed nearly twenty matches for his club. The Israeli Ofir Marciano was then forced to defend the Rotterdam goal and as the ultimate emergency bandage, the Romanian Valentin Cojocaru was hired. If Wellenreuther comes to Feyenoord, the current third goalkeeper, youthful talent Thijs Jansen, will be leased to TOP Oss. Feyenoord is still working to extend the contract with Jansen.

If Wellenreuther makes the switch to Feyenoord, he will be the eleventh acquisition of the Rotterdam team. Danilo, Mats Wieffer, Oussama Idrissi, Jacob Rasmussen, Marcos López, Sebastian Szymanski, Santiago Giménez, Javairô Dilrosun, Igor Paixão and Quinten Timber have already been recruited.
