Salomón Rondón is back in the Premier League: Everton has signed the striker for two seasons. The arrival of the 31-year-old attacker from Venezuela is the Merseyside club’s response to Moise Kean’s return to Juventus, who will first lease the attacker for two seasons and then have a mandatory €28 million option to buy.

Technical director Marcel Brands, partly at the request of manager Rafael Benítez, made work on the arrival of Rondón, who had already worked with the Spaniard twice before. First in 2018/19, when the attacker was loaned to Newcastle United by West Bromwich Albion, and later with Dalian Pro in China.

Rondón played a total of 140 matches in the Premier League for WBA and Newcastle. “I’m very happy to be back in the Premier League,” he said on the club’s website. “I can’t wait to put on the shirt and be reunited with Rafael Benítez. A coach who made me see football differently. I am very grateful for the confidence he has shown in me.”

Rondón makes the transfer-free to Everton, which still has an option for a third season. The Venezuelan, who played for Las Palmas, Málaga, Rubin Kazan and Zenit St Petersburg for years in Spain and Russia, scored 24 league goals for WBA and then another 11 in Newcastle’s kit. Everton have started the season well with seven points from three games.
