Manchester United has a plan to loosen Declan Rice from West Ham United at a discounted asking price, it reports The Athletic. Now that Jesse Lingard is making a big impression on a rental basis at West Ham, think the Red Devils with the 28-year-old midfielder having a trump card.

English media have been reporting the interest of Manchester United in Rice for some time. The midfielder is the captain of West Ham United at the age of 22 and is an indispensable pawn in David Moyes’ team. The manager said in early March that even £ 100 million, roughly £ 115 million, will not be enough to take Rice away from the Hammers.

Manchester United is looking into the possibilities of lowering that asking price. Therefore, the current number two of the Premier League wants to use Lingard as a trade. The midfielder was rented out to West Ham in January and has started incredibly well with the Londoners. Lingard is on six goals and two assists after eight league matches at West Ham, which has moved up to fourth place partly due to his performance.

West Ham is therefore planning to take over Lingard for good. No option to buy has been agreed, so the Hammers will have to negotiate with Manchester United again. Talks about this have not started yet, but according to the Athletic the asking price for Lingard is at least 29 million euros. The 27-time England international has a contract at Old Trafford until next summer.
