Manchester United have completed the return of Cristiano Ronaldo. On the club website, the English top club announced on Tuesday that the Portuguese attacker has signed a contract for two seasons. The deal includes an option for another year. Ronaldo’s previous employer Juventus announced earlier in the day that it will receive 15 million euros for Ronaldo. That amount can increase by eight million via bonuses.

The 36-year-old Ronaldo is starting his second term at Old Trafford. Between 2003 and 2009 he was already under contract with Manchester United. During that period, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner scored 118 goals in 292 games in all competitions. “Manchester United have always had a special place in my heart,” Ronaldo said on the club’s website. “I am overwhelmed by all the messages I have received since the announcement last Friday. I can’t wait to play at Old Trafford again in front of packed stands and see the fans. I look forward to joining the squad after the international break. I hope we have a successful season.”

“There are no words to describe Cristiano,” said manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is delighted with the return of his former team-mate. “He is not only a great player, but also a fantastic person. You must be a very special person to be able to play at top level for that long. I am convinced that he will continue to impress us. I am sure his experience will be of great value to the young players in our squad. Ronaldo’s return demonstrates the unique appeal of this club and I am absolutely delighted that he is back where it started for him.”
