Tyrell Malacia will continue his career at Manchester United. The left-back is currently in England to finalize the deal. Football International writes that all parties involved are approaching an agreement and that the deal will be concluded quickly. Feyenoord already reached an agreement with United on Monday evening. Reportedly, the transfer fee is fifteen million euros plus two million euros in bonuses. Malacia will be manager Erik ten Hag’s first acquisition.

For a long time, Frenkie de Jong seemed to be the first United acquisition, until the English top club Malacia snatched away from Olympique Lyon. The 22-year-old left back played 49 official matches with the Rotterdam team last season and after 135 matches in total, despite his young age, he can now be called an experienced force at Feyenoord. The fierce left wing defender is also a fixed value in the selection of the Dutch national team, although he usually still has Daley Blind in front of him.

According to Martijn Krabbendam of Football International United are heading for ‘a quick deal’. Only Malacia and his agent Ali Dursun have yet to come to an agreement with United, after which a multi-year contract is in the offing for the the Dutch international. The move by the English top club is surprising, after local media reported that David Raum of TSG Hoffenheim initially preferred Ten Hag over Feyenoord’s back. Nevertheless, Ten Hag would have urged the club management to go for Malacia.

Feyenoord will in turn attract Ian Maatsen as a replacement for Malacia. The twenty-year-old left back from Chelsea comes to Feyenoord via a rental construction, which is also trying to negotiate a purchase option. It is still unclear what the status of that option is. In 2019, Maatsen made his debut for the Londoners under then manager Frank Lampard in the League Cup against Grimsby Town (7-1 win). It was his only appearance in Chelsea’s main squad so far, on loan to Charlton Athletic last season.
