Manchester United lost the Premier League for the first time in 30 away games on Saturday. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team came up short on a visit to Leicester City, which deservedly won: 4-2. City mate Manchester City made no mistake with a fairly minimal win against Burnley (2-0) and takes second place behind Liverpool. United drop to fifth place and could drop even further this round.

Leicester City v Manchester United 4-2
Brendan Rodgers’ team made the best impression in the first half. Leicester City looked dangerous from an offensive point of view and clearly had more to offer than the equalizer that polished away Mason Greenwood’s brilliant opening goal. The attacker’s wonderful effort disappeared high in the left corner behind Kasper Schmeichel. However, Youri Tielemans’ 1-1 could also be there: Harry Maguire did not pay attention when he was passed the ball from David de Gea, after which Tielemans eventually worked the ball nicely over the goalkeeper. Manchester United had some good chances for more goals, but made a hesitant impression in the back. Ricardo Pereira and Kelechi Iheanacho were close to 2-1.

Manchester United had the best prospect of a second goal after the break. A Nemanja Matic bet went over and a Greenwood bet in minute 65, after a good chance for Cristiano Ronaldo, ended up on the far post. The devil was in the last quarter. De Gea turned a shot from Patson Daka after a corner with his legs and in the end it was Caglar Söyüncü who got the ball into the goal from close range: 2-1. A few minutes later, substitute Marcus Rashford equalized when he worked the ball over Schmeichel after a wonderful pass from Victor Lindelöf.

Jamie Vardy was next on the scoreboard a minute later. After preparatory work by Ayoze Pérez from the left, the striker’s volley ended out of reach for De Gea in the top corner: 3-2. In extra time, Daka managed to work a free kick by Tielemans behind De Gea. Donny van de Beek stayed on the bench for ninety minutes. Solskjaer chose to substitute Scott McTominay and Jesse Lingard ten minutes before the end, after Rashford’s earlier substitution.

Manchester City v Burnley 2-0
Guardiola’s team, which had Nathan Ake appear at the starting signal, dominated most of the first half and took the lead after twelve minutes of play. Phil Foden’s bet was turned, after which Bernardo Silva worked the ball against the ropes from close by: 1-0. Although the 2-0 was in the air via Joao Cancelo and Raheem Sterling, the reigning champions did not always make a certain impression at the back. Maxwel Cornet, for example, was close to scoring after a quick attack. Zack Steffen, Ederson’s replacement, however, made the save and later Josh Brownhill aimed just wide.

Burnley made a better and more eager impression after the break, while the home crowd was clearly displeased with the lack of action at Manchester City. Only doubled twenty minutes before time the Citizens the profitable margin after a good breakout. A shot by Kevin De Bruyne was far too powerful for goalkeeper Nick Pope: 2-0. Manchester City got away well eleven minutes before the end when a Chris Wood bet hit the crossbar. Burnley, with Erik Pieters on the field for ninety minutes, is thus waiting for the first victory of the season.

Aston Villa – Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-3
Shortly after the break, the home team managed to break the spell on Villa Park. McGinn served Danny Ings with a custom cross, after which the attacker was able to head in completely free: 1-0. McGinn doubled the margin for Aston Villa twenty minutes before the end with a flaming shot from about twenty yards: 2-0. Aston Villa seemed to be sitting on roses, but Romain Saïss brought the tension back into the game ten minutes before the end: 2-1. Wolves tied the score during the final offensive. Through an incredible scrimmage, the ball fell at the feet of Conor Coady, who was able to work the ball into the goal from one meter 2-2. Deep into injury time, Rúben Neves even gave the visitors the full booty with a free kick that changed direction: 2-3.

Norwich City – Brighton & Hove Albion 0-0
Halfway through the first half, Brighton & Hove Albion thought of a penalty. Neal Maupay went to the ground, but referee Peter Bankes waved off the protests. Ten minutes before half time, the visitors were close to the opening goal. Leandro Trossard shot towards the top left corner, but the ball went through the gloves of Tim Krul on the post. In the second half Teemu Pukki had another good opportunity to give Norwich City the lead. However, the striker’s shot went just past the right post. Just before time, Maupay failed to give Brighton three points. The attacker’s shot went inches over the bar.

Southampton v Leeds United 1-0
After twenty minutes, Mohamed Elyounessi had the perfect opportunity to give Southampton the lead. His header from the rebound narrowly missed the right post. In an otherwise unenergetic first half there were no chances for either team. The home side took the lead eight minutes after the break. After a flashy counter, Nathan Redmond gave the ball to Armand Broja, who was able to work from close range: 1-0. Leeds United proved unable to pull out another draw in the remainder of the second half.
