Spain has not yet reached its top form heading into EURO 2024. La Furia Roja lost 0-1 against Colombia in London. The winning goal was scored after more than an hour by Daniel Muñoz, who shot in beautifully at the far post after very nice preparatory work by Luis Díaz.

National coach Luis de la Fuente chose Joselu as the striker. The Real Madrid striker was supported at his back by Mikel Oyarzabal, Mikel Moreno and Pablo Sarabia. Stars such as Lamine Yamal, Álvaro Morata and Nico Williams had to make do with substitute appearances. For Colombia, Mateo Cassierra was at the point of attack. The ex-Ajax player, currently active at Zenit St. Petersburg, saw Luis Díaz standing behind him.

Excited by the many Colombians in the stands at the London Stadium, both teams made it an entertaining first half. Spain enjoyed possession of the ball, although it did little with it, partly due to Colombia's fierceness. Martín Zubimendi nevertheless came close to the opening goal, but the midfielder just missed his chance.

The speed of Luis Díaz, Jhon Arias and Jorge Carrascal caused Spain some problems on the counterattack, although the South Americans did not have any real big opportunities. Spain got another good chance through Dani Vivian. Athletic Club's man-marker saw his header just go over.

Gerard Moreno had the opportunity to open the score just after half-time, but his shot towards the left corner was cleverly knocked out of the goal by Camilo Vargas. Just fifteen minutes after the interruption, James Rodriguez should have opened the score. The 32-year-old playmaker from São Paulo got the ball in his feet after a very poor clearance from Vivian. James shot over disappointingly, but was able to cheer moments later.

Luis Díaz made mincemeat of Vivian in the one-on-one and subtly sent a cross at the far post with his left. Daniel Muñoz appeared there and the Crystal Palace defender shot a beautiful volley into the short corner: 1-0. Spain could do little in the phase after that goal, although Pedro Porro did fire a dangerous shot that ended up in the side netting.

Spain was also unable to convince in the final phase, although Alejandro Grimaldo came close. His effort just missed the wrong side of the post.
