Jürgen Locadia continues his career in Iran. The 28-year-old attacker has signed a one-year contract with Persepolis, a top club in Iran. A return to the Netherlands for Locadia is thus ruled out for the time being. He will play at his new club with shirt number 4.

Persepolis already reported the arrival of Locadia on Sunday, but could not make the transfer official yet. Before that, permission had to be obtained from the Football Association of Iran. That has now been received, allowing the attacker to sign a contract for one season with the club from Tehran. Locadia has been given jersey number 4 and will compete with his team for the national title in Iran. It has already won that prize fourteen times.

There were also clubs in the Eredivisie that would have liked to bring in the striker. NEC was the most concrete, but that club eventually canceled Locadia itself. Technical director Ted van Leeuwen told this a week and a half ago. The transfer-free striker received an offer from Nijmegen months ago, but put the club in the waiting room. NEC was not pleased with that. “Locadia is not coming to our club,” the director makes clear. “We canceled it.”

The adventure at Persepolis means that Locadia is already ready for its fifth club abroad. He previously played for Brighton & Hove Albion, Hoffenheim, FC Cincinnati and VfL Bochum. In the Netherlands, the striker from Emmen broke through at PSV, where he went through the youth academy and made his debut in the first team. After the first half of the 2017/18 season, in which Locadia scored nine times, he moved to England.
