Liverpool spilled valuable points in the Premier League on Monday evening in the final phase. On a visit to Leeds United, it looked like for a long time that Jürgen Klopp’s team would take a 0-1 victory from the fire, but in the 87th minute the home team came alongside: 1-1. Due to the loss of points, Liverpool, which has 53 points, remains in sixth place in the rankings; Chelsea (54 points) played one game less and is fifth, West Ham United (55) is fourth and Leicester City (56) is third. The latter also has a duel credit.

The game on Elland Road started with a striking incident, as Leeds United made a statement against the plans for the Super League. The players of the club wore special shirts in the warm-up with the message on the back: Football is for the fans. The front of the white t-shirts of the Leeds players featured the Champions League logo, with the message below it: Earn it. It is interesting that Liverpool is part of the plans for the Super League.

In any case, the visitors were not distracted by the statement, because an excellent first half was put on the mat. The Reds played the ball around at high speed and put the opponent’s back against the wall from the first whistle. The first good opportunity came in the fifth minute, when Thiago Alcántara fired a promising shot but found goalkeeper Illan Meslier on the way to a goal. A goal was scored after half an hour of play.

Diogo Jota had a fabulous deep pass to Trent Alexander-Arnold, who then put the ball wide on Sadio Mané. The attacker had the corner to choose and convincingly scored the 0-1. After the break, Leeds got more color on the cheeks. Helder Costa (over) and Jack Harrison (rescue Alisson Becker), among others, came close to a goal, but were unfortunate in the completion. The biggest chance came in the name of Patrick Bamford: he hit the bar fifteen minutes before the end after a viewed lob. Liverpool’s game in the second half contrasted sharply with that before half-time.

Fate struck three minutes before the end of regular time. A sharply cut corner from Jack Harrison went over the heads of Patrick Bamford and Mateusz Klich and could be headed in by Diego Llorente: 1-1.
