Go Ahead Eagles has an above average interest in Ruben van Bommel’s services. That reports Football International Thursday evening. The club from Deventer has even spoken to MVV’s lightning fast attacker and hopes to be able to trump other clubs with interest. AZ and FC Twente have also had discussions with Van Bommel and his entourage.

Van Bommel is by far the most important player of MVV this season. The only eighteen-year-old attacker scored fifteen times, also delivered three assists and was named Talent of the Year in the Kitchen Champion Division, partly because of those figures. A step to the highest level in the Netherlands seems imminent for Van Bommel, who is coveted by various clubs. Go Ahead is now also in that list and thinks it has a serious chance of getting the signature of the son of former midfielder Mark van Bommel.

Bert van Marwijk, Mark’s father-in-law and Ruben’s grandfather, can at least tell great stories about De Adelaarshorst. The former national coach started his career as a player in the sixties at Go Ahead and eventually also earned an election for the Dutch national team. If Van Bommel decides to actually play football in Deventer, he will follow in his grandfather’s footsteps.

Go Ahead has competition from AZ and FC Twente, clubs that also spoke to Van Bommel. In addition, there is also interest from Vitesse, FC Utrecht, Feyenoord and PSV. Those clubs have not yet acted. Not much will have to be paid for the services of the young Limburger, who currently plays football for MVV on an amateur basis. He can therefore be picked up for free, but Van Bommel has already indicated that he wants the Maastricht club to keep something from him.

The most likely scenario is that Van Bommel signs a contract for a season, which then includes agreements about a possible departure. It is expected that the wing attacker will immediately make use of those specific agreements. Now the talent of MVV is still focused on the Kitchen Champion Play-offs, in which the Star Bearers taking on NAC Breda. On Tuesday evening, the team from Brabant won the first meeting in the Rat Verlegh Stadium 1-0 thanks to a goal by Ody Velanas.
