Lionel Messi is open to a return to Barcelona after his career as a professional footballer. In an interview with Sport let the 34-year-old Argentinian know that he would like to help his former club in a technical position in the future. In the last transfer window, Messi turned his back on Barcelona after 21 years for a two-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

In an exclusive interview with the Spanish newspaper, Messi was asked if he hopes to return to Barcelona one day. “Yes. I’ve always said I’d like to come back and help the club in whatever way that may be. I want to be useful and help so that the club is doing well. I think it would be nice to be technical secretary, but I don’t know if I can get that role at Barca,” Messi said.

“If the opportunity presents itself in the future, I would be happy to return to the club and contribute what I can,” said Messi, who makes no secret of his love for Barca: “I love Barcelona and I hope that the club remains healthy, can continue to grow and remain among the best in the world.”

Due to major financial difficulties, Barcelona were unable to renew Messi’s expiring contract last summer. He left for Paris Saint-Germain, where he signed a contract until the summer of 2023, with an option for another season. PSG may not be Messi’s last club. After all, he has never made it a secret that he wants to end his career at Newell’s Old Boys, the club where he enjoyed the early part of his education.
