Nothing seems to stand in the way of a national title for Bayer Leverkusen anymore. The team of success coach Xabi Alonso won the tricky away match at SC Freiburg 2-3 on Sunday afternoon. Florian Wirtz, Adam Hlozek and Patrik Schick, assisted by Jeremie Frimpong, appeared on the scoreboard on behalf of that Workself. The lead of the leader over closest pursuer Bayern Munich is ten points with eight matches to go.

On the Leverkusen side, Frimpong started the kick-off. The other wing phenomenon, Alejandro Grimaldo, started on the left. Wirtz had to provide the Czech attackers Hlozek and Schick with usable balls. Exequiel Palacios and Granit Xhaka were in central midfield to provide much-needed balance.

Leverkusen had an absolute dream start in Freiburg. Wirtz was sent into the depth by Grimaldo, cut and turned to his right leg. The technician, who is having a magnificent season, wonderfully curled the ball into the top corner: 0-1.

Nevertheless, Freiburg soon managed to come alongside through ex-PSV player Ritsu Doan. The Japanese entered into a one-two with Lucas Höler, only to find the short corner with his left behind the hopeless Leverkusen goalie Lukas Hrádecký: 1-1.

Freiburg had a strong phase and was even allowed to dream of the lead, which did not come. Merlin Röhl, who has already been nominated several times this season for the Talent of the Month award in the Bundesliga, only just saw his shot end up in the side netting. Leverkusen would regain the lead before half time. Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu intervened too late, forcing him to release. The falling ball was a prey for Hlozek: 1-2.

The other Czech attacker, Schick, would also find his name on the scoreboard. The striker, who was worth his weight in gold in the Europa League midweek with two goals in injury time against FK Qarabag, appreciated a cross from Frimpong and neatly tapped in with the outside of his foot and through the inside of both posts: 1-3 .

Nothing seemed to be wrong for Leverkusen, until it suddenly became 2-3 ten minutes before the end. After an excellent pass from the back, Yannik Keitel had a free shooting opportunity in the box. The first time, the Freiburg youth product shot at Hrádecký, who had no chance on the rebound from an attempt in the short corner of the same Keitel.

Leverkusen went hunting for the final decision, which, however, was not made. This was partly because Wirtz missed an excellent opportunity from close range by shooting the ball just wide. A shot from about eighteen meters by Granit Xhaka also failed to produce a result. The Swiss saw his effort towards the short corner turned away by Atubolu.
