Marco Rose is the new coach of RB Leipzig. The 45-year-old German takes over from Domenico Tedesco, who was fired after the shameful 1-4 defeat in the Champions League against Shakhtar Donetsk. Rose, who was born in Leipzig, has signed a contract until mid-2024.

Under Tedesco, after a disappointing start to the competition, a catch-up race was started last season, which led to reaching fourth place and a corresponding Champions League ticket and winning the German Cup. Still, he didn’t have enough credit to survive a series of mediocre matches at the start of the current season and now it’s up to Rose to turn the tide. It is up to the 45-year-old German to get things going again after the big defeat against Shakhtar. The first test awaits next weekend: a home game against Borussia Dortmund.

Rose has the necessary experience and his first game against Dortmund is immediately a spicy one, as he worked there until May of this year. The trainer was also active as a coach at Lokomotive Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg and Borussia Mönchengladbach. He says to the official channels of those Roten Bullen that he is looking forward to the challenge. “I know this city, the club and the qualities of the selection. Everything is wonderfully arranged here, everything that is needed is there.”

“I want to get started with the players as soon as possible,” Rose continues. “We want to reverse the negative atmosphere with a lot of energy and power and quickly achieve good results. That must be the first objective. We are going to do it as a team and the core is to become successful together.” The German club can use that, as Leipzig is currently in eleventh place in the Bundesliga and needs good results in the Champions League to have a chance at a place in the last sixteen.
