John Motson, the English commentator who spent years on the BBC and in the popular video game FIFA, has died at the age of 77. The British broadcaster announced this on Thursday. The family of Motty stated that Motson passed away peacefully in his sleep.

Motson joined the BBC in 1968. During his fifty years in service, the Englishman covered ten world championships, ten European Championships and 29 FA Cup finals for British broadcasters. In 2001 he was honored for his services by Queen Elizabeth. In 2018 he retired and after the end of Crystal Palace against West Bromwich Albion, his last game for Match of the Day, put in the spotlight on the field. In doing so, Motson was applauded by the crowd and then Palace manager Roy Hodgson presented him with a memento.

Motson is best known to the younger generation as the English voice of the video game FIFA. For years, the commentator recorded the lyrics that could be heard during a match. discontinued in 2006 The Voice of English Football with that and focused on his last years in the service of the BBC. In 2015, Motson admitted in a major interview with Football International indicated that he would quit if his job satisfaction diminished and in 2018 Motson quit permanently. The legendary commentator has turned 77 years old.
