Crysencio Summerville will also remain associated with Leeds United for the next four years. Fabrizio Romano revealed on Tuesday that all paperwork is in place to break open the attacker’s contract expiring in mid-2023 until 2026. It shows the confidence Leeds has in Summerville, who still has sufficient growth potential given his only 20 years of age.

Summer came to Elland Road in 2020, after completing his youth academy at Feyenoord. At the time, Leeds paid about one and a half million euros to release the born Rotterdammer. Summerville started with the Under 23 of the peacocks, but was allowed to take a seat on the bench at the end of that season at the first. Early in the following year, the time had come: the then nineteen-year-old attacker was allowed to fill in for 23 minutes in the Premier League match with Newcastle United (1-1).

In total, Summerville was allowed to participate nine times last season, spread over the Premier League, the FA Cup and the EFL Cup. He was only allowed to start once, against Fulham in the latter competition. According to Romano, both AZ and PhD student Nottingham Forrest intended to make Summerville an offer for more playing time last June, but Leeds wanted to keep the Dutchman on board. Then there were already plans on the table to break open his contract.

Summerville saw an important competitor disappear this summer with Raphinha (to Barcelona), but Leeds took Luis Sinisterra in his place. However, the acquisition of Feyenoord immediately injured his hamstring in the exhibition game with Crystal Palace. It is still unclear how long Sinisterra will be out of circulation, although trainer Jesse Marsch tempered fears of a serious injury recently. In addition to Summerville and Leeds, the coach also has Daniel James, Jack Harrison, Hélder Costa and Ian Poveda on the wings.
