Ronald Koeman sees little point in strengthening the Barcelona selection with Renato Sanches and Cristian Romero, he knows RAC1 to be revealed on Wednesday. The trainer of the Catalan superpower is not unsympathetic to incoming transfers, but then they have to be real reinforcements that actually add something. Earlier this transfer window, Koeman brought Memphis Depay, Sergio Aguero, Eric García and Emerson Roybal to the Camp Nou.

Spanish media recently came out to Barcelona looking at alternatives should a swap deal between Antoine Griezmann and Saúl Ñiguez fail. ASH Sanches immediately moved forward, because the Lille OSC midfielder is physically strong and dynamic and has a good shot in the legs, qualities that Koeman likes. According to RAC1 however, the Dutch coach does not intend to pull out the wallet for the midfielder who died in 2016 Tuttosport was still named golden boy. There is apparently doubt whether Sanches can live up to it in the absolute top of Europe.

Koeman reportedly believes that Romero also does not fit the profile of a typical Barcelona player. The coach already has similar players in the rear such as Gerard Piqué, Clément Lenglet, Ronald Araújo, Óscar Mingueza, Samuel Umtiti and García. After a strong season at Atalanta, Romero has also drawn attention from Tottenham, which saw an initial offer of 45 million euros for the defender rejected. The Italian club reportedly wants at least 55 million euros for the Argentine mandekker, who recently won the Copa América.

The rejection of Koeman does not mean that Barcelona is finally ready for the summer transfer market. The Barcelona coach is still keen to add a midfielder to his roster, although financial options are currently limited. Depay, Aguero, and García had an expiring contract with their previous club and could therefore be transferred to Barcelona on a free transfer. The transfer window in LaLiga is open until August 31.
