Kenneth Vermeer has immediately left Los Angeles FC behind, the American club communicates through the official channels. LAFC writes in a message on its website that the ongoing contract of the 35-year-old goalkeeper has been terminated by mutual agreement. Vermeer has played in Major League Soccer since January 2020.

The timing of Vermeer’s departure is quite striking, as LAFC will play its first league game of the season against Austin in the night from Saturday to Sunday (00.00 Dutch time). Trainer Bob Bradley had not yet appointed a first goalkeeper for the new season, but it seemed that Pablo Sisniega was going to win the competition from Vermeer and that the Dutch closing post would therefore have little to play.

With the departure of Vermeer, a place is now available for a foreign player in the LAFC selection. The US transfer window is open until June 1. Vermeer was taken over by LAFC from Feyenoord more than a year ago. In his first, and now appears to be only, year in Los Angeles, the five-time Dutch National Team played seven official games. Vermeer also had to do it regularly last season with a place on the reserve bench, because Bradley chose Sisniega under the bar.
