Kaj Sierhuis will wear the Heracles Almelo shirt for the rest of the season. The 23-year-old striker comes on a rental basis from Stade de Reims. Heracles has not negotiated an option to buy the ex-Ajacied. On Monday, Sierhuis was already present in Almelo, after which the agreement from France followed last night. Now that the signatures have been made, Sierhuis will step onto the training field on Tuesday morning. “I had been thinking here for weeks,” Sierhuis responds to TC Tubantia.

Sierhuis had to settle for a supporting role in Ligue 1. “I’m ready to be a regular player again. I have competition here, but I have come to play,” the attacker told the newspaper. In preparation for this season, Sierhuis was told by Stade de Reims that he could leave on a rental basis. “That was the first time I spoke to Heracles, over six weeks ago. Later in the pre-season I got fit and played again, then I was told that I could still take my chance. That changed again two weeks ago.”

Due to his imminent departure for Heracles, Sierhuis was absent from Stade de Reims’ home match against Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday evening. Wouldn’t he rather have been at Lionel Messi’s debut? “Haha, no, I chose Heracles over Messi. This is the platform where I want to play again and this is the club where I want to be,” said Sierhuis, whose contract in France continues until the summer of 2024.

“In recent weeks we have been working hard on his arrival,” technical director Tim Gilissen said in a press release. “We had to be patient for a while, but it’s nice that Kaj is here now. Both personally and as a footballer, he fits well with our club. Kaj is driven to make his contribution, we will work with him to support him in this.” After the international match, Sierhuis can make his debut for Heracles on Sunday 12 September in the away match against Feyenoord.
