Chelsea and Manchester United balanced each other out on Sunday night. The Premier League game at Stamford Bridge ended in a 1-1 draw. Jadon Sancho provided the opening goal, after which Jorginho equalized the score halfway through the second half. Despite the loss of points stay the Blues leader in England and still enjoy a lead of one point over closest pursuer Manchester City. The Red Devils remain in eighth place in the ranking.

At Chelsea, Hakim Ziyech could count on a starting spot, while Romelu Lukaku, Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz all started as substitutions. On the other side, Cristiano Ronaldo had to resign himself to a place on the bench. Next to him was also Donny van de Beek. It was the home side that started the game most convincingly, and after three minutes the London attacking spirit already provided the first serious chance of the game.

Ziyech turned away from Eric Bailly in the box, creating space for the shot. With his attempt, however, he ran into goalkeeper David De Gea. From the rebound, Callum Hudson-Odoi had an excellent opportunity to give Chelsea the lead, but again De Gea prevented a goal. Although United handed out a pinprick through Jadon Sancho, among others, the team of manager Thomas Tuchel remained the dominant party. After half an hour of play, Antonio Rüdiger had the biggest chance of the match until then. A shot from the edge of the box shattered the crossbar.

The score was opened five minutes after the break. Jorginho made a horrific mistake when he mishandled a deep ball near the center circle. Sancho took over the ball and, together with Marcus Rashford, charged at the enemy goal. Face to face with goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, Sancho made no mistake: 0-1. In the Champions League match with Juventus, the attacker already scored his first goal in the Manchester United shirt; now the counter in the Premier League is also on a goal. Eight minutes later, Timo Werner should have equalized on a pass from Marcos Alonso, but his shot went wide uncontrollably.

Halfway through the second act, the stand was leveled after all. Aaron Wan-Bissaka made a sliding tackle on Thiago Silva’s ankle within the penalty area, after which Anthony Taylor pointed to the dot. Jorginho made up for his earlier mistake and took advantage of the opportunity of eleven meters: 1-1. Despite Ronaldo now coming in at the expense of Sancho, United were unable to break any more offensively. The home team came out dangerous a few more times, but the scoreboard stopped moving. Van de Beek still got a few minutes to play, although it was not enough to play a significant role.
