Roy Hodgson’s appointment at Crystal Palace is paying off. Before the arrival of the 75-year-old coach, the Londoners failed to win no less than thirteen games in a row. Hodgson made his debut in the previous round with a crucial 2-1 win over Leicester City and there was also every reason to cheer on Sunday. Palace won no less than 1-5 (!) at Leeds United. Thanks to the win, Palace climbs to twelfth place and is currently six points clear of the dreaded eighteenth place. Leeds are sixteenth, two points behind number eighteen Nottingham Forest.
Particularities:
The afternoon started off so promisingly for Leeds. After Luis Sinisterra and Brenden Aaronson, among others, missed opportunities, the home team scored after more than twenty minutes. From a corner kick, Patrick Bamford headed the ball against the ropes: 1-0. However, Palace came alongside in the stoppage time of the first half. Marc Guehi scored the equalizer on a pass from Jeffrey Schlupp. After the break, Palace walked away from Leeds on the basis of Michael Olise, who would have three assists. The Frenchman was responsible for the decisive pass in the 1-2 and 1-3 of Jordan Ayew and Eberechi Eze respectively. Twenty minutes before the end, Odsonne Édouard made it 1-4 on a pass from Olise. Ayew signed his second of the afternoon fifteen minutes before the end, this time on a pass from Will Hughes.
