John de Bever maintains a warm relationship with Johan Derksen, the former indoor football player says in a video item from VI Today. De Bever himself hopes to soon join the new talk show of Wilfred Genee, René van der Gijp and Derksen. “I’m proud of the men, because I don’t think anyone expected them to have so many viewers,” said the folk singer. VI Today scores more than 800,000 viewers in recent days.

De Bever has the most contact with Derksen. “Johan is a friend of mine”, says the former striker of FC Dordrecht, who later made a name for himself in the hall. “I come to Johan’s house two or three times a month. Johan is like a second father to me. It is sometimes very strange that we think exactly the same about many things. I do not always agree with him, and he not with me. He thinks I make shitty music and that’s okay, that’s okay too. It wouldn’t be good if they all loved John de Bever.”

The Beaver knows why VI Today a hit. “I think they’re having success with the program because it’s real, and people want to see realness on TV. There’s too little real on TV. When someone comes on a talk show, it’s often a bit of a smack, but you don’t have to. You have to give an opinion the way you think, and if you can’t, then you shouldn’t sit on TV.”

The singer himself hopes to be invited again. “I still have to sit down at the table, don’t I. I also want to participate in a stubborn conversation, in the middle of that table between René van der Gijp and Johan Derksen. About politics, what are they all talking about? About wolves in Drenthe… Johan is right about that, isn’t it scary? If I now walk here with the dog, and a wolf suddenly grabs my dog… I shoot that wolf too. I just don’t have a gun, that has to be I will also go get it.”

De Bever may soon be featured in its own reality series. “We have made a pilot and we are waiting. I cannot and may not say anything about it yet, otherwise I would say it. I have seen the pilot and I have shown it to three or four ‘neutral’ people, and they liked it all. I think it will be fine, otherwise it will be fine. But I just said it: if they want to show authenticity, this is real. I think there is a need for it.”
