Jackie Groenen exchanges Manchester United for Paris Saint-Germain. The French top club made the transfer of the 27-year-old midfielder official on Thursday morning and pays an amount that can rise to 150,000 euros through bonuses. This makes Groenen the most expensive Dutch football player ever. She signs for three seasons in Paris.

Groenen, who played 92 international matches for the the Dutch Lionesses, was stuck in Manchester for another season. The English club also wanted to keep her, but the amount offered was ultimately too high to refuse. The midfielder instantly becomes the most expensive Dutch football player ever. In recent years, money has increasingly been paid to have an the Dutch Lioness transferred and that started in 2013 with Sherida Spitse, who then moved from FC Twente to Lillestrøm SK in Norway for 25,000 euros.

On the website of her new club, Groenen says that she is looking forward to the adventure. “It’s a big change and a big step in my career, but I’m very happy that I Parisian am. My first impressions are very good and everyone is so nice to me. Most of the girls I’m going to play with I’ve already met and they are amazing too. I’m now here at one of the biggest clubs in the world and I really like that.”

In Paris, Groenen will play together with Lieke Martens, who previously transferred from Barcelona to PSG free of charge. The club from the capital would like to take on the fight with Olympique Lyon, which has been the superpower in French women’s football for many years. At that club, Daniëlle van de Donk and Damaris Egurrola also play two the Dutch internationals. Previously, Groenen played for FFC Frankfurt, Chelsea, FCR Duisburg, SGS Essen and therefore Manchester United.
