Feyenoord and SC Cambuur have reached a final agreement on the transfer of Etiënne Reijnen, the Rotterdam club announced on Wednesday via the website. It Algemeen Dagblad previously reported that Reijnen was the main candidate to succeed Marino Pusic as assistant coach of Arne Slot at Feyenoord. Until now, 36-year-old Reijnen worked as technical director at Cambuur.

Reijnen will immediately join Feyenoord as an analyst and technical staff advisor to the first team. In this position he will work closely with Slot. “It is a huge honor to start working in this position at Feyenoord,” Pusic’s successor exulted after signing the contract.

“An opportunity like this at a top club does not come along easily. The performance and growth of Feyenoord in recent years under this staff are impressive. I am therefore very much looking forward to further supporting that collaboration,” says the ambitious Reijnen.

More than a month ago, Feyenoord announced that Pusic will continue his career at Shakhtar Donetsk, to take final responsibility for the Ukrainian top club. A hard blow for Arne Slot, who had been almost inseparable from Pusic since 2019.

Reijnen must now succeed Pusic at Feyenoord. The native of Zwolle, who played with Slot at PEC in the 2010/11 season, has been technical director at Cambuur since this season. Feyenoord and Cambuur had reportedly agreed on his transfer for some time. The lump sum payment that Rotterdam residents pay is unknown.

Reijnen signed a four-year contract with the Leeuwarders last summer. He came over from PEC, where he was assistant coach to Dick Schreuder last season. Reijnen has been active as a professional footballer for a total of fifteen seasons. The former defender played a total of 407 official matches for Zwolle, AZ, SC Cambuur, FC Groningen and Maccabi Haifa.

After Pusic’s departure, Slot still had two valued assistants left: Sipke Hulshoff and John de Wolf. The latter, who recently extended his contract until mid-2027, seems to mainly serve as a cultural guardian. For that reason, Feyenoord wants to add an extra force to the technical staff.
