René van der Gijp was the victim of a failed robbery at the end of April when he was attacked near his house by three men with sledgehammers. The former footballer was eventually able to get away unharmed and on Thursday one of the suspects appeared in court. V’s 21-year-old Ryan acted as the robber’s driver on the evening in question and the Public Prosecution Service has now demanded a two-year prison sentence. Van der Gijp says in a short reaction that he almost feels sorry for the young robber.

Van der Gijp wanted to drive into his driveway six months ago on that evening when suddenly three robbers showed up with hammers. They then tried to smash the windows of the analyst’s car in an attempt to steal his Rolex watch. However, because the analyst’s car was equipped with bulletproof glass, they failed to do so, after which Van der Gijp was able to drive away.

“I actually have to do with it too. Then you go out with three burglars to rob someone. That makes good progress… I don’t have the feeling that when you come home in the evening, you have a good feeling about it ”, says Van der Gijp on Thursday evening. RTL Boulevard on the prison sentence demanded against Van V. “That kid must avoid. He is 21 and has a whole life ahead of him. No, these are not things that really make me happy. Maybe he learned from it, maybe not. I hope so for him. ”

Peter R. de Vries, who is present in the studio of the program, thinks that Van der Gijp reacts to the matter a bit laconically. However, the journalist thinks that there is more going on beneath the surface: “I don’t think he got into cold clothes. The press officer was, of course, quite right when he said, “Suppose those windows weren’t armored.” Then all those windows would have been smashed with those sledgehammers and then you really wonder whether you will survive that. From the fact that René later said in interviews that he would never again be such klokkie to do, of course indicates that there is something deep inside. ”
