Internazionale booked a convincing victory over Cagliari in the Serie A on Sunday evening. The team of trainer Simone won 4-0 thanks to two goals from Lautaro Martínez and goals Alexis Sánchez and Hakan Calhanoglu. The win brings Inter to forty points and takes the lead in Serie A from AC Milan, which drew 1-1 against Udinese on Saturday.
At Inter, Stefan de Vrij made his comeback after a month of injury. The Dutch defender was already in the selection during the lost Champions League match with Real Madrid (2-0) midweek and was allocated a basic place by trainer Simone Inzaghi, just like Denzel Dumfries against Cagliari. The home team had a strong opening phase. Barella, for example, tried twice with a long shot, after which Milan Skriniar shot full at the fists of goalkeeper Alessio Cragno from about thirty meters. In between, the visitors asserted themselves via Raoul Bellanova, who tested Samir Handanovic for the first time from the counter.

Oncei Nerazzurri had handed out a few pinpricks, they actually struck after half an hour, when Martínez headed in a measured corner from Calhanoglu at the near post: 1-0. Inter then failed to close the game in the first half. Cragno kept Cagliari in the game with a fine save on an attempt by Alexis Sánchez and on the stroke of half-time he again played a hero’s role. The ball hit the spot after the goalkeeper floored the broken Dumfries. Cragno corrected his mistake not much later by stopping a penalty from Martínez.

In the second half, Inter jumped at their chances better and it quickly rolled over Cagliari. First, Sánchez took a cross from Barella in the box in one go on the shoe, after which Calhanoglu further increased the score by crossing the ball from about twenty meters into the right corner: 3-0. Halfway through the second half, Martínez contributed for the second time in the evening. Barrela put the ball behind the visitors’ defense with pinpoint precision. With a perfect assumption, Martínez let Cragno fish again: 4-0.
