Amine Harit has to miss the World Cup in Qatar. The midfielder of Olympique Marseille suffered an apparently serious knee injury in the duel with AS Monaco (2-3 win) on Sunday, which immediately led to fears for his participation in the final tournament. Moroccan national coach Walid Regragui said not much later that the first tests confirm the doomsday scenario.

Harit screamed to the ground at a 1-1 tie at the Stade Louis II on Sunday. The sixteen-time Moroccan international immediately seemed to know that it was wrong and looked at his leg with fear. The first tests now confirm his fears: he has suffered a serious knee injury and has to give up his World Cup dream for the time being. Harit, like Noussair Mazraoui, Hakim Ziyech and Zakaria Aboukhlal, among others, was part of the final selection of the Lions of the Atlas for the global final.

The youth product of FC Nantes was just making an advance in his career. Harit was a frequent base player last season with Marseille that finished second in Ligue 1, and he often started the kick-off this year as well. Regragui rewarded the dribbler with a definitive place in his World Cup selection. The national coach indicated on Sunday that he will call up a replacement by Tuesday at the latest.

In addition to Harit, Mazraoui and Ziyech and Aboukhlal, Sofyan Amrabat is also part of the Moroccan selection for Qatar. Like Ziyech, the former midfielder of FC Utrecht and Feyenoord is facing his second global final tournament. PSV player Anwar El Ghazi also hoped for an election, but is not part of Regragui’s final group. Morocco will take on Belgium, Canada and Croatia in Group F and will play its first match on November 23 against the latter country.
