Gibson Yah will leave Ajax at the end of the current season, the defender-cum-midfielder announced via Instagram. Yah indicates that he wants to continue his career elsewhere, although he does not mention a concrete destination. The eighteen-year-old Ajax player has an expiring contract that will therefore not be extended.

“After ten (eight, ed.) great seasons, I will leave Ajax at the end of the season for a new adventure,” Yah says in the caption under his publication on Instagram. “I would like to thank everyone. In particular, I would like to thank all my trainers, staff and teammates who have helped me over the years in my development into the footballer I am today. I came in as a little boy and proudly leave this fantastic club as a young man on my way to a great new challenge!”

Yah entered Ajax’s youth academy at the age of ten. The defensive midfielder subsequently completed the entire youth academy and signed his first professional contract in November 2021, which took effect retroactively in July 2021. Yah signed a relatively short contract, as he was injured at the end of August and Ajax could not or did not want to take any risks .

Last football year, Yah made his debut at Jong Ajax in the duel with TOP Oss. In the current season, the defensively minded midfielder got 230 playing minutes spread over 12 Keuken Kampioen Division matches. In November, Yah still expressed the goal of going far at Ajax, but for the time being the paths of both parties are separating. “I want to show that I belong to Ajax and can therefore stay longer”, he said in a hopeful manner in November.
