Wesley Sneijder reacts with surprise to a fragment of Eljero Elia from the documentary No Guts, No Glory van Videoland about FC Utrecht’s past season. The footage shows the 34-year-old attacker walking furiously into the dressing room and repeatedly saying to Adrián Dalmau: ‘You’re really lucky that camera is here’. Sneijder calls it ‘nonsense’ in the studio what happens on the images. Shortly after Sneijder’s statements, Elia places three smiling emojis on Twitter.

In the fragment, Elia steps into the FC Utrecht dressing room, apparently looking for Dalmau. The Spanish striker is in another room with a towel over his head and his face in his hands. Elia addresses Dalmau several times with ‘amigo’, but the Spaniard does not respond. Then Elia walks away and says three times, “He’s really lucky that camera is here.” Presenter Bart Nolles asks Ron Vlaar, who is also present, whether he has ever ‘completely scolded someone’ in a dressing room.

“No, not really,” Vlaar replies. “That hasn’t really been my style. I’m more of a person who then tried to make things better. If someone made a mistake, you couldn’t do anything about it anyway. So there’s no point in acting on it anymore “Then I don’t think you’re helping anyone. I’ve been thinking about images of Wesley for a while, but I don’t think you were one to jump in right away either.”

“I think this is really nonsense what is happening here”, Sneijder responds to the words of Vlaar and the fragment. “He comes in and actually wants to say something, you see in a certain emotion. And then he goes: ‘You’re lucky that the camera is there’. When you’re in that emotion, you go in and you don’t care what’s around you. Even if there are a hundred cameras: if you’re in that emotion, you have to say it.”

Nolles cites that Elijah holds back because he was aware of the camera. “Could it have been that he was aware of the camera? Well,” Sneijder responds. Nolles asks whether the end of Elia’s career is approaching, as he is currently not in the plans at FC Utrecht. “It’s hard to find a club these days. He has not had a great year and then things can go fast,” says Vlaar. “That is the time we are in now, you can just be right.”
