Gernot Trauner is having a very strong season at Feyenoord and has not missed a minute so far. His also successful debut season, in which he reached the final of the Conference League with the Rotterdam team, generated a lot of interest. He tells this to Sky Sport Austria. However, there was no transfer. The mandekker remained loyal to Feyenoord because he did not see the interest as a step up.

Despite the summer exodus that took place at Feyenoord, Trauner has never worried about his future. “I waited relaxed. I knew there would be interest, but for me it was no better than Feyenoord. I signed here for four years, also to create peace of mind for my family. We feel good in Rotterdam, I feel good with the club and the fans. That is important to me.”

That Feyenoord became group winner in the Europa League is, according to the Austrian, ‘an incredible achievement’. Especially after many summer changes took place. “It was extreme how many players left us this year. A big compliment to the trainer and the scouting. Everyone in the club knows which direction we want to go. As a first step, we brought in players who fit this vision.” However, the season got off to a slow start. “At the beginning we saw that not everything fit so well. There were a number of players who played a lot at the beginning and have been substituted during the season. The coach knows how he wants to play.”

The performances of Feyenoord and Trauner in the Europa League have not gone unnoticed in Austria either. To date, the defender has played eight international matches, three of which in the past calendar year. The last one dates from last June. He played the entire game in the 2-0 Nations League match against Denmark. Trauner expresses the hope that national coach Ralf Rangnick will call him up again for the upcoming international matches. “I hope I can play and show myself in the upcoming European Championship qualifiers. I’m ready for it,” he says.
