Jan Boskamp retracts his critical statements about Cyriel Dessers. According to the analyst, the Belgian striker was not good enough for Feyenoord, but he is revising this opinion now that Dessers makes one important goal after another for the Rotterdam team. “I have to keep my face,” said Boskamp.

Dessers has been a topic of conversation a number of times when Boskamp was a guest at The Importance of Limburg† For example, the cheerful Feyenoord fan said in August that he still had little faith in the Belgian, after it became known that the attacker was moving to Rotterdam on a rental basis. “Of course he can score a goal and is familiar with the Dutch league, but I have a bit of the same view as when Dessers went to KRC Genk. I think it’s just too little for a top club.”

In March of this year, Boskamp was still not convinced of the striker’s qualities in conversation with the same Belgian magazine. “No, I have to say that he scores a lot of important goals, but you want to grow to a higher level and I don’t like that. Genk wants four million for him and Feyenoord will never pay that. He’s a nice player, but not for a top club. Feyenoord is a top club, but it doesn’t have a top team.”

“I’ve always had my doubts whether he would be able to achieve it at the top, but now he is shooting them all the time”, Boskamp now returns to his earlier criticism of Dessers. The attacker has already scored 20 goals in 45 games this season, of which he has produced 10 in the Conference League. Dessers hopes to conquer the European Cup, but also competes with Tammy Abraham for the top scorer title in the Conference League. The AS Roma striker has scored one goal less than the Belgian with nine hits. “I have to keep my face”, Boskamp now returns to his earlier statements about the striker. By the way, the analyst enjoys Feyenoord’s final spot. “I’m still enjoying it, kid. Football was not something to watch, but we are in the final.”
