The final of the TOTO KNVB Cup, which is scheduled for next Sunday, has a special meaning for Theo Janssen. The former midfielder is Vitessenaar in heart and soul, but also played a season for Ajax during his career. “Of course I hope that Vitesse wins. That is not my club and Ajax ”, says Janssen in conversation with The Telegraph.

“I had a great time at Ajax and had a good time with the players and the staff, but otherwise I don’t have much with that club. At Vitesse I have been everything, from supporter to player and now trainer ”, Janssen explains. He is currently still working at Vitesse, as a trainer of the Under-18s. From next season, Janssen will be given the position of talent coach within the youth academy of the Arnhemmers.

“I am going to work with talents from the entire study program, which I am going to supervise individually. This can be done with mutual conversations, but also by joining training sessions or watching video images together, ”Janssen explains his new position. He is also considering obtaining the highest trainer’s diploma in the future. “I don’t do that for the time being, but if, for example, Vitesse indicates that they see me as a future head coach, then I will certainly be open to get my Coach Paid Football. I think I could be a good coach. ”

Janssen compliments the current trainer Thomas Letsch with the season so far. “That he has found a system that does full justice to the qualities of this group. And specifically the qualities of Tannane and Bazoer. If you put those two together in midfield, that is not good for the team ”, says Janssen. “You have to crown such a season with something tangible, a great price. It would therefore be great if after four years it would be possible to bring that cup to Arnhem again. ”
