Latest update:

Arne Slot is satisfied with the substitution of Feyenoord talent Givairo Read against AS Roma (1-1). The Amsterdam right back came in twelve minutes before the final whistle and left a good impression as a replacement for Bart Nieuwkoop. For Read himself, pride predominates.

Because Read is still unknown to the general public, Slot said in conversation with ESPN more about the fierce fullback. “He is a boy who has been training with us since the winter break. We took it over from FC Volendam last summer. First spent six months with Robin van Persie at the Under 18s.”

Slot is now convinced that Read can join in. “He has some qualities that I like. He is fast and not afraid to play. The latter is not unimportant if you suddenly have to enter De Kuip.”

For Read, Thursday was an evening to remember. “I am standing here with a very happy feeling. I have no words for it,” said the eager defender Feyenoord ONE.

Read only heard on Wednesday that he would be part of the match selection. “I was happy with that. Lutsha (rel Geertruida, ed.) is of course ill, so Marcos López and I were the only defenders on the bench. That's why I already had a feeling, but you never know for sure.”

“It's all happening faster than expected,” Read said about his development. “I find everything fun and good to experience. I am on the right track and I have to keep going like this, then everything will work itself out.”

The very young (June 2, 2006) Read transferred from FC Volendam to Feyenoord on a free transfer last summer. On behalf of the Eel farmers he had already made his debut in the Eredivisie. The youth international now plays for Feyenoord with shirt number 26, which makes it appear that he has been permanently transferred to the Rotterdam main squad.
