Dean Henderson is clearly not pleased with the rumors that have been circulating around his person in recent weeks. The Manchester United reserve goalkeeper is said to be unhappy with his role as second goalkeeper and has been linked with numerous clubs but is now hitting back via social media. Henderson speaks of “sad people” who have associated his name with “inappropriate, hurtful and completely false news”.

Henderson felt compelled on Monday to speak up in response to the rumours. “I can’t believe I ever should have done this, but I’d like to address the rumors that have come to light in recent days,” the Manchester United goalkeeper began his message via Instagram stories. “There are some sad people in the world who have linked my name to inappropriate, hurtful and totally false news. This affects my family. I hereby debunk all rumors, I would like to move on.”

It is not known which news items the goalkeeper is referring to exactly. Reports came out that the keeper wanted to leave United. Newcastle United would have been interested in a swap deal with Martin Dubravka, but a deal never materialized. The Slovak, who is the first goalkeeper at Newcastle, is said to have rejected the transfer. Henderson’s name was also associated with Watford on the last day of the transfer window. English media wrote that manager Ralf Rangnick had stopped that.

Henderson, who only made his appearance under Rangnick in the FA Cup match against Middlesbrough and the match against Young Boys in the Champions League, joined United in 2011 as a 14-year-old. He went through several youth teams and so far has played 29 games in the first team. The goalie impressed during his two-year loan spell with Sheffield United before being brought back to Old Trafford in 2020. His return did not go according to plan, however, as he has to settle for a reserve goalkeeper role. Henderson is still waiting for his first appearance in the Premier League this season. He only appeared four times.
