Willem van Hanegem is not happy with Feyenoord’s performance in the league match against RKC Waalwijk (2-2). In his column for the General Newspaper writes the former football player that ‘too much goes wrong’ with Arne Slot’s team. Van Hanegem highlights several players who, in his view, did not perform well and recommends Slot to think carefully about the way in which the attacking playing style is carried out.

Teams that fall behind against Feyenoord, such as RKC, know, according to Van Hanegem, that there is no man overboard yet. “Feyenoord keeps running forward and if that is carried out with a little less energy, the opponents still get opportunities. I do not think it is surprising that it sometimes goes with less energy. It eats up power what they do.” In the eyes of Van Hanegem, Feyenoord should carry out the playing style ‘a bit dosed’. “At 1-0 for example, then the word is also a bit up to the opponent, you would say, but this Feyenoord does not think that way, they just want to keep going.”

After a good start to the season, the mood was tempered by a defeat against Vitesse (2-1) and the draw against RKC. “There is still a lot going wrong unfortunately”, notes the curve on. “Marcos Senesi suddenly has his own documentary, but if he really wants to progress, he has to become much sharper now.” Feyenoord announced the documentary this week El Gladiador which highlights the background of the Argentine defender. The documentary “depicts the person behind the footballer and the close-knit family that Marcos Senesi can rely on unconditionally,” Feyenoord reported.

However, Van Hanegem believes that the defender should focus on his game. “Against Vitesse, he gifted a goal to Lois Openda and the way he defended Jens Odgaard on Saturday at 1-1, that is of course not possible.” Odgaard let himself be played with his back to the goal, managed to turn away from Senesi quite easily and shot the ball into the far corner: 1-1. At the 1-2, Senesi let goal scorer Vurnon Anita walk away. “In an attacking sense, I saw Cyriel Dessers fall through the ice. Too little aggression and no sharpness in front of the goal. I also thought it was a shame that Bryan Linssen, who did well as a striker, had to swerve to the left. He has on the sidelines nothing to look for.”
