Keje Molenaar is anything but impressed by Calvin Bassey, and believes that Daley Blind should always play at Ajax. The Volendammer says in Good morning Eredivisie that it is incomprehensible that Alfred Schreuder has not used the 32-year-old defender as a starting player in the last four games. Blind came on Saturday evening against FC Emmen (3-3) as a substitute for Bassey, but with the left leg in the team Ajax could not prevent that a 1-3 lead was given away.

“Bassey just falls seriously short in football,” said Molenaar, who then jumps in the gap for Blind. “Every time the discussion is about Daley, but I really want to make a case for him. We all know that he is not 100 percent defensively, with his speed he has his weaknesses. But in the footballing part, Ajax always has seventy to 75 percent possession of the ball. Then you have to make sure that Daley at least just plays, always. Whether that is as a left back or in the center. That’s where football starts at Ajax in recent years.”

Molenaar believes that Ajax should build the team around Blind. “As policy makers, you have to make sure there are a few guys around that make up for Blind’s defensive shortcomings. Guys who are left behind at all times. Vitesse was able to cross the entire field twice last week without meeting anyone.”

Molenaar then closes his message to Schreuder crystal clear, in which he also stands up for the regularly criticized Dusan Tadic. “I really just think that Daley should play at Ajax. That also applies to Tadic, who have just performed fantastic for the club in recent years.” Hans Kraay junior indicates that it may also be ready for the duo one day. Miller disagrees. “It’s not over! I think that Ajax cannot afford to put Daley on the bench at the moment.”
