West Ham United and Atalanta have agreed on the transfer of Gianluca Scamacca, it has been reported Sky Sports Sunday night. The striker costs the Bergamo club including bonuses 32 million euros. Scamacca succeeds Rasmus Højlund, who recently completed his transfer to Manchester United.

West Ham will receive 26 million euros fixed, while the Hammers can also look forward to a further 6 million euros in bonuses if certain, unspecified sporting achievements are met. Scamacca is now in Rome, where he is medically examined by Atalanta. Medical tests are expected to be completed on Monday. West Ham loses to the 24-year-old Italian, who came over from Sassuolo last summer. I Neroverdy then received 36 million euros.

Scamacca was linked to several Italian clubs this summer. For example, AS Roma, for whom he already played in youth, was interested. Until recently, Internazionale seemed to have the best papers to get hold of the born Roman, but the proposed transfer fee from last season’s Champions League finalist could not appeal to West Ham. It is reported that the offer amounted to 24 million euros plus 4 million in bonuses. Moreover, knew Sky Sports Italy to report that Scamacca preferred to go to Atalanta. His wish now seems to be coming true, while Inter has been transferred to Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun.

Dutch past
The tall Scamacca (1.95 meters) left the youth academy of Roma in January 2015 for that of PSV. There he came into action in the Under 17 and Under 19, but it never came to a breakthrough in the first. The people of Eindhoven decided to sell him to Sassuolo two years after his arrival. He also failed to break through there and a rental period to PEC Zwolle in 2018 also proved fruitless: ten games, zero goals and zero assists.

After rental periods at Ascoli and Genoa, he still managed to break through completely at Sassuolo. His transfer to West Ham earned PSV four million euros due to a stipulated resale percentage. PSV now also seems to be allowed to collect again, although this time it will be several hundred thousand for the training allowance. Last season he scored eight goals in 27 appearances for West Ham. Scamacca, however, announced this summer that he wanted to leave the Conference League holder.
