Gerry Hamstra will permanently start working at PEC Zwolle as technical director, the Overijssel club has announced. The 53-year-old Groningen native signs a two-year contract and will start his new position immediately.

When Hamstra came to Ajax three years ago, it was to work closely with Marc Overmars and to take over some of his work with the youth, Young Ajax and scouting. After Overmars' departure, he became co-responsible for technical management together with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

Ajax decided to organize the organization differently. Sven Mislintat came as director of football affairs and Hamstra left. Huntelaar resigned from his duties at Ajax in October due to a burnout.

Hamstra is happy that he can start a new job at PEC Zwolle. “I am very much looking forward to starting work at PEC Zwolle. That this club is very much alive was once again clear last Sunday when club icon Bram of Poland said goodbye,” he says on the club website.

“The club managed to maintain itself very well last season under Johnny Jansen. We will immediately work hard to perform optimally and I am confident that we will achieve this together with all our colleagues.”

Hamstra and Johnny Jansen are no strangers to each other. During his time at SC Heerenveen, Hamstra was responsible for the appointment of the current trainer of PEC Zwolle. The two know each other well.

General manager Xander Czaikowski is happy with Hamstra's experience. “Due to his past at clubs such as SC Heerenveen, FC Emmen, Vitesse and Ajax, he has built up an enormous network and that will of course come in handy in his new position.”

“In consultation with the technical staff, technical manager Mark Coonen and the scouting apparatus, Gerry's focus from this moment on is on putting together the strongest possible selection for next season. I of course wish Gerry and his team every success.”
