Guus Hiddink will be the new chairman of the Professional Football Coaches Association (CBV). The former national coach of the Dutch national team decided two months ago to permanently stop as a trainer. Hiddink takes over the role from Frank de Boer, who stopped as national coach after the European Championship last summer and then also resigned his position at the CBV.

“I am pleased that I can use my knowledge and experience built up over the years for young talented trainers/coaches”, says Hiddink on the website of the CBV association. “In this way I hope to contribute to the further development of our beautiful profession of trainer/coach.” The former trainer will be in a nice row of names. Previous chairmen of the CBV were the current national coach Louis van Gaal, Leo Beenhakker, Foppe de Haan, Han Berger, Ronald Koeman and De Boer.

The CBV is also pleased with Hiddink’s appointment. “Guus Hiddink has helped to put the Netherlands on the football map, a global citizen who has had successes everywhere as a trainer/coach and the trade association is proud that Guus will share his experience with the current trainer corps,” is the response of the Association Coaches Professional Football. . With the appointment of Hiddink, who can call himself the seventh chairman in the existence of the association, the current board of the CBV will consist of seven members. During his career, the former coach worked for PSV, Real Madrid, the Dutch national team, South Korea, Australia, Russia and Chelsea, among others.

Hiddink announced two months ago that he was ending his coaching career. The 74-year-old former coach was most recently active as technical director and national coach of Curaçao, but surprised presenter Johnny de Mol in the talk show HLF8 with the message that he had decided to leave that position. Hiddink’s message caused surprise to De Mol, who once again asked Hiddink whether ‘it is ready’. The trainer replied in the affirmative. When asked whether Hiddink will do another ‘Dick Advocaatje’, ‘somewhere in a faraway country’, a ‘no’ followed.
