The first leg in the quarter-finals of the Champions League between Arsenal and Bayern Munich ended in a 2-2 draw on Tuesday evening. Arsenal started the match in their own Emirates Stadium in a dazzling manner and took the lead through Bukayo Saka. Bayern quickly fought back through goals from Serge Gnabry and Harry Kane (penalty). In the second half, Arsenal achieved a draw through a goal from substitute Leandro Trossard. Matthijs de Ligt played the entire match at the heart of the Bayern defense. The return will follow in two weeks in Germany.

Alphonso Davies was shown a yellow card in the ninth minute. The Bayern left back has therefore been suspended for the return and also had to watch out for almost a full match.

Three minutes later, Saka scored. Davies' direct opponent was played in the penalty area by Ben White. Saka found space with a shot towards the far bottom corner to leave goalkeeper Manuel Neuer without a chance: 1-0.

In the sixteenth minute, after weak defending, Arsenal created a gigantic opportunity to make it 2-0. Kai Havertz put White outlawed in front of Neuer, but the right back the Gunners shot straight at the keeper.

Arsenal seemed to control the match, but out of nowhere Bayern leveled. Gabriel thought he could easily clear a long ball, but delivered a hospital pass to Kiwior.

That ball ended up with Jamal Musiala. The technical had a good through ball to Leon Goretzka, who in turn tapped through to Serge Gnabry. The former Arsenal striker suddenly slid the ball in: 1-1. It was only the nineteenth minute then.

A brilliant individual action by Leroy Sané earned Bayern a penalty after half an hour of play. Sané cleverly dribbled past Kiwior and was knocked down by a charge from William Saliba. Kane calmly shot the penalty into the opposite corner than David Raya had anticipated: 1-2.

Arsenal chased an equalizer in the second half. Declan Rice tried in the 51st minute with a threatening free-kick that just flew over. The introduction of Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard in the 67th minute turned out to be a golden opportunity for Mikel Arteta.

Jesus made a graceful dribble into Bayern's penalty area nine minutes after his entrance. The Brazilian cut through De Ligt, kept an overview and tapped Trossard wide just in time. The Belgian shot into the far corner: 2-2.

A minute before the end, Bayern came very close to a victory. Kingsley Coman, a substitute for the German side, looked to tap Sané's cross through Raya's legs, but the ball came back into the field via the post.

In injury time, Arsenal also became extremely threatening. Saka charged at Neuer and came into contact with the German goalie, but was not awarded a penalty. The final whistle followed immediately afterwards.
