Hertha BSC has playfully announced the contract extension of Kevin-Prince Boateng on Wednesday afternoon. The midfielder signs a contract in Berlin for another season, which means that he is fixed until mid-2023. Reason enough for the German club to give away the symbolic number of 2023 döner kebab sandwiches. “I’m still hungry, are you?” Boateng asks his fans in the video message.

Hertha supporters can pick up their sandwich around the first home game in the Bundesliga at the new Hakiki stand in the Olympic Stadium. Hertha will play at home against Eintracht Frankfurt on August 13. The video is well received on the internet by German football fans and has already been viewed almost two hundred thousand times. Hertha could use some positivity after the past season.

Last season, the club only managed to maintain its place in the play-offs on the very last day. The first leg in Berlin against HSV was lost 0-1. A goal from Ludovit Reis seemed to be fatal for Hertha. In the return the old lady to turn the tide and surprisingly a 0-2 victory was booked. Dedryck Boyata, ex-defender of FC Twente, was partly responsible for this.

Boateng is thus adding another year in the Bundesliga in his hometown. He once nicknamed himself the Ghetto Kid because of the neighborhood in which he grew up. The Wedding district of Berlin is known as a relatively poor neighbourhood. So far, he has made 74 official appearances for Hertha, scoring 5 goals and providing 9 assists. During his time at AC Milan, the high-profile Ghana international regularly made the news with crazy antics.
