Georginio Wijnaldum has shared images on his own social channels showing him doing exercises to get back in shape. The AS Roma midfielder, who was recently injured and will therefore have to miss the World Cup, reports that he still has a long way to go.

The images, which can be seen on Wijnaldum’s Instagram page, show how the the Dutch international is working up a sweat to recover soon. Less than two weeks after his official presentation to Roma – who will hire him from Paris Saint-Germain this season – Wijnaldum broke his right shin in training. It usually takes three to six months to recover. This allowed a line through the World Cup in Qatar, for which the midfielder was looking for playing minutes again.

He seems to be able to continue that quest only in 2023, but judging by the images, Wijnaldum is in any case on the right track. After the World Cup, Ronald Koeman takes over from Louis van Gaal as national coach and the former already mentioned that Wijnaldum, provided he is fit, always deserves a place in the Dutch national team. The European Championship qualification for the the Dutch will start in March of next year.

At his presentation in the Italian capital, the veteran expressed the hope of quickly convincing Van Gaal. “It will be a difficult year, because as a player you normally really have to grow during the season. Now I have to start very strong right away. That will be difficult, because the World Cup is already in the winter. It is not impossible, but for me it is It’s important to get off to a good start, then I’ll be ready as soon as possible.” Wijnaldum can be taken over from PSG after this season for eight million euros.
