Cody Gakpo asserted himself on Saturday evening in the English top match against Tottenham Hotspur. The Liverpool striker cleverly scored the equalizer (1-1) in injury time in the first half, but immediately suffered a nasty injury. At halftime it was decided that Gakpo would not return to the field.

Liverpool were defeated early in the match by a red card for Curtis Jones. Moments later, Tottenham were given a 1-0 lead by star player Son Heung-min. In total, Liverpool fought back to the same level. Virgil van Dijk headed the ball for Gakpo, who managed to turn in a fluid movement and fire hard. The former PSV player immediately grabbed the back of his knee. Jurgen Klopp decided to bring on Diogo Jota for Gakpo at the start of the second half.

Ronald Koeman will watch it all with dismay. The Dutch national coach had to watch this week as Frenkie de Jong (Barcelona) withdrew from the upcoming international match with a serious ankle injury and now has to fear that Gakpo will also be missing. The Dutch national team will play crucial matches in the European Championship qualifying series next month, at home against France on October 13 and away to Greece on October 16.
