A winter move from Cody Gakpo to Leeds United seems to be off the track, reports The Athletic. According to the British quality newspaper, PSV has been close to an agreement with . in recent weeks the Whites. Due to his strong start to the season, Gakpo would no longer see a transfer to Leeds. The 23-year-old attacker is reportedly hoping for an absolute top club, including Real Madrid, Arsenal and Manchester United.

In early September, transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano announced that Gakpo remains the main target of Leeds. It is expected that the English will return to the PSV attacker in January, who is on Deadline Day decided at the very last minute to stay in Eindhoven. According to The Athletic Leeds and PSV have approached an agreement in recent weeks, but Gakpo himself would now bet on larger clubs after an excellent start to the season. This makes a switch to manager Jesse March’s team out of the question.

The British quality newspaper mentions Real Madrid as a possible destination for Gakpo, who was also in the concrete interest of Manchester United last summer. The Red Devils however, paid 95 million euros to Ajax to recruit Antony, after which the interest in Gakpo cooled. Arsenal was also associated with the the Dutch international during the summer transfer window.

Gakpo has already scored 14 goals and 11 assists in eighteen official games this season. Last Sunday he took the team from Eindhoven by the hand by taking on the only goal of the match during a visit to sc Heerenveen. The Athletic emphasizes that much will depend on the World Cup in Qatar. If Gakpo also manages to impress on this stage, there is a good chance that top clubs may want to continue in January.
