Olympique Lyon and Paris FC have been kicked out of the Coupe de France tournament. The disciplinary committee of the French Football Association (FFF) is punishing the club of trainer Peter Bosz and the club from Paris in response to the recent disturbances in the cup match. Lyon also has to pay a fine of 50,000 euros and is not allowed to take fans to away games for the rest of this season.

It went wrong in the half-time of the cup match in the Stade Charléty, with a score of 1-1. While both teams were in the dressing room, fans of Paris FC and Olympique Lyon confronted each other, after which a Lyon supporter threw fireworks at a box of supporters of the home team. Then it got completely out of hand.

Fighting broke out in the stands and hundreds of spectators rushed onto the field to escape the brawl and film the scenes. The police had to intervene to restore order. There were heavy blows dealt. Referee Jérémy Stinat decided not to resume the match. OGC Nice, which would meet the winner of the meeting in the next round, is automatically through to the eighth finals of the cup tournament due to the decision of the FFFF.

Lyon also risks exclusion from the next edition of the Coupe de France if there are new disturbances in Ligue 1 this season. Paris FC will be fined € 10,000 and not allowed to receive fans at its own stadium for five matches. The cup tournament was for les gones a good opportunity to qualify for European football. Through the competition, that seems to be going to be a difficult story. The Bosz team is in a disappointing thirteenth place halfway through the season with only 24 points after 18 games.

It was the second time this season that a Lyon match was canceled due to fan violence. Earlier this football season, Olympique Marseille captain Dimitri Payet was pelted with a bottle of water and there were also disturbances. Lyon was then deducted one point. In anticipation of the penalty, Bosz also had to coach a few home matches in an empty stadium and the duel with Marseille also has to be finished completely. It is not yet clear when that will happen.
