Eintracht Frankfurt qualified for the final of the Europa League on Thursday evening at the expense of West Ham United. Just like last week in London, the Germans reckoned they were a size too big for David Moyes’ team: 1-0. An early red card for Aaron Cresswell quickly left the visitors with ten men, after which Rafael Borré scored the only goal of the evening. Moyes lost his head in the final phase and was shown a red card after he savagely shot a ball at a ball boy.

Both teams had a bad general in the run-up to the second confrontation in the semi-finals of the Europa league. Where Eintracht Frankfurt lost in competition to Bayer Leverkusen, Arsenal gave West Ham a 1-2 defeat during the London derby. Oliver Glasner made no fewer than six changes to his starting eleven with the home team on Thursday evening compared to the Bundesliga game, while the visitors also performed at their strongest with Michail Antonio and Tomas Soucek.

The visitors in the Deutsche Bank Park were presented with a rather lackluster opening phase. Nevertheless, the home crowd was able to bounce back after twenty minutes, when referee Jesús Gil Manzano decided to send Cresswell off the field after the intervention of the VAR. The left back initially seemed to get away with yellow, after he pulled the emergency brake at the broken Jens Petter Hauge.

It didn’t take long after that that Adler managed to take advantage of the surplus on the field. Ansgar Knauff came through over the right flank and found Borré with a cross through Kurt Zouma’s legs, after which the Colombian striker was able to easily tap in: 1-0. With one man more, Frankfurt consolidated the lead after the break. West Ham was powerless to create any serious threat. It was precisely manager David Moyes who joined the Hammers lost his head in the final phase by shooting a ball towards a ball boy out of frustration.
