Jordan Botaka will return to the Dutch fields at Fortuna Sittard, the number seventeen of the Eredivisie has announced. The 28-year-old winger is rented from AA Gent for the remainder of the season. There is no option to purchase included in the agreement. “I’m happy to be here,” said Botaka, who will be wearing jersey number 17.

Botaka was loaned out to Charleroi last season, but fell out of favor there and was last used in an official game on November 17, 2021. Last summer, the wing striker returned to Ghent, where there was also no playing time for him. So Botaka has not played a game for almost a full calendar year. The Belgian is logically looking forward to his new adventure. “A fresh start, a new beginning for myself,” says Botaka.

The attacker has already played 37 games in the Eredivisie, from the time he played for Excelsior Rotterdam. “I know the competition and it just felt good to return to the Netherlands,” says Botaka. “Fortuna Sittard came at the right time in my career, so when the opportunity presented itself, the choice was made quickly.”

Sjoerd Ars tells how Fortuna ended up with the right leg: “We had been looking for more opportunities for the flanks for some time,” said the technical manager. “With Jordan’s speed and creativity, we have now acquired an extra weapon. We are confident that his experience in various strong competitions will add value to us.”

Botaka partly grew up in the Netherlands, while his career was mainly played out on the Belgian fields. The Congolese international wore the shirt of Anderlecht, Lokeren, Club Brugge, Sint-Truiden and Charleroi, among others. In the period 2013-2015, the attacker returned to the Netherlands once before, playing for Excelsior in 84 matches, the majority of which were at the second level.
