Willy Scheepers was sentenced to eight years in prison by the Swiss court this week, reports Blick† The news medium from the Alpine country writes that the former defender of, among other things, PSV has been found guilty of cocaine trafficking and money laundering. Scheepers has been held in pre-trial detention and preventive detention for two years, but now knows what his final sentence will be.

The criminal case came in the hands of the Swiss court, which sentenced Scheepers to a total of eight and a quarter years in prison. His accomplice Frenkie C. was ordered to mope for five and a half years. Scheepers will be deported from Switzerland after serving his sentence and may not return there for eight years. Like his accomplice, Schippers has to pay 20,000 Swiss francs from the profit made on the drugs. Scheepers can still appeal against the verdict, which according to Blick is a real scenario.

The former professional went through PSV’s youth academy and played 17 matches for the Eindhoven team between 1978 and 1981. Scheepers spent the remainder of his playing career abroad. After Belgian, German and Danish adventures at, among others, Darmstadt 98 and Odense BK, he settled in Switzerland, where he successively played for FC Glarus, FC Zurich and FC Dietikon. In 1993 Scheepers hung up his shoes.

Scheepers held various managerial positions in Switzerland after his career and returned to the Netherlands in the 2012/13 season, as trainer of RKSV Nuenen. The 61-year-old former professional was at the helm there for barely two months, before the main division called a halt to the collaboration. The trainer was at odds with the player group from the start. It was also in the Netherlands where Scheepers was committed his offence. His accomplice Frenkie C. was caught with two kilos of cocaine, which he tried to smuggle from the Netherlands to Switzerland. However, the drugs are said to have been purchased by Scheepers in the Netherlands. The former defender was also arrested.
