Rudi García is the new trainer of Napoli, the club announced on Monday evening through the official channels. The 59-year-old Frenchman takes over from Luciano Spalletti, who, after conquering the scudetto announced to stop. García was previously at the helm of Olympique Marseille, OSC Lille, Le Mans, Dijon, Saint-Etienne, AS Roma and Al-Nassr.

García is said to have won the battle for the trainer’s chair against, among others, Luis Enrique, who said goodbye as national coach of Spain after the World Cup. Antonio Conte is also said to have been on the wish list of chairman Aurelio de Laurentiis. García had been without a club since April 13, as he was fired from Al-Nassr. He failed to lead Cristiano Ronaldo and associates to the Saudi national title.

De Laurentiis announces the arrival of García in a tweet, in which he wishes the brand new coach good luck. “I am pleased to announce that, having met him several times in the last ten days, Mr. Rudi Garcia will become Napoli’s new coach. A sincere welcome to him and good luck”, said the chairman.
