It is still anything but certain that Stijn Spierings will play for PSV next season, reports journalist Marco Timmer van Football International Thursday night. The people of Eindhoven are facing fierce competition from clubs abroad, including RC Lens. As number two in Ligue 1, the French club immediately enters the Champions League and wants to do so with 27-year-old Spierings, who is transfer-free this summer after three excellent seasons with Toulouse.

At the end of May, the rumors surrounding Spierings and PSV emerged. Various sources reported that he would almost certainly sign in the Philips Stadium, but an agreement has not yet been reached. Spierings is well positioned in the market and cannot only make a domestic switch to Lens, because clubs from the Serie A and LaLiga also hope to get the inspector. Spierings has already visited Eindhoven, but that does not mean that he will commit to PSV for the coming years. It is unknown whether the Alkmaarder also spoke to Peter Bosz.

In the Netherlands, Spierings was previously under contract with AZ, Sparta Rotterdam and RKC Waalwijk. Abroad, the controller also played for Levski Sofia in addition to Toulouse. The adventure in France was a greater success. Spierings has played 111 official matches since October 2020 Les Violets, in which he was good for fifteen goals and thirteen assists. With the number thirteen of the Ligue 1, Spierings was surprisingly crowned cup winner of France this season. The coming weeks will show whether he is open to a return to the Eredivisie. With this he can follow his bosom friend Branco van den Boomen, who opted for a transfer-free transfer to Ajax.

Spierings must succeed Ibrahim Sangaré at PSV, who hopes to make a top transfer abroad. Various Premier League clubs and Paris Saint-Germain are preying on the arrival of the Ivorian midfielder. Coincidentally, Sangaré was also picked up by PSV at Toulouse. In September 2020, the people of Eindhoven paid a transfer fee of about seven million euros for the physically strong midfielder. In the event of a departure, Sangaré must generate thirty million more next summer. The right leg is still fixed in the Philips Stadium until mid-2027. If PSV manages to fish Spierings, it will get a cheap alternative for one of the key players of recent years.
