Feyenoord has succeeded in closing a deal with Arsenal over Reiss Nelson, reports football.london. The 21-year-old right winger will come over from London on a rental basis for the rest of the season. Nelson is an alternative to Amad Diallo, who was supposed to be hired from Manchester United but was injured at the last minute on Sunday.

Nelson went through Arsenal’s youth academy and made the move to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on a rental basis in the summer of 2018. In the Bundesliga, he scored 7 goals and an assist in 23 appearances, before returning to the Gunners a year later. Although he was allowed to play regularly in the 2019/20 season with nineteen Premier League appearances, the wing attacker ended up sidetracked at Arsenal last year. In the current season, Nelson came on as a substitute in the lost game against Brentford (2-0). Transfermarkt estimates its market value at nine million euros.

Given the narrow selection, Feyenoord was urgently looking for an extra offensive reinforcement. With Luis Sinisterra, Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Bryan Linssen, Arne Slot only had three full-fledged wing players. Linssen and Naoufal Bannis can also manage as number nine. Robert Bozeník, the other striker in Feyenoord’s selection, is leased to Fortuna Düsseldorf with an option to buy, reported Football International earlier.

On Sunday evening, Feyenoord suffered a major blow when it was told that Diallo was injured during training and will probably be sidelined for a month. Feyenoord and Manchester United had an agreement on a lease for the rest of the season. “He has been injured, it is canceled,” technical director Frank Arnesen told the on Sunday General Newspaper. “Too bad, everything was finished.”
